I am not claiming any of these tips are real or will catapult you to the front page but I was just talking with a friend about SEO thing’‘s that I ‘heard’ that could improve your rankings/visibilty in the big G! Maybe some real SEO’s can step in and make some comment’s!

The whole subject frankly confuses the hell out of me and I think someone should write a real upto date SEO ebook as most are a bit weathered.

Why make this post? Certainly not to rank for SEO keywords I don’t need that just wanted to get a discussion going amongst the design community where we can share any tip’s we heard or think may help!

None of these I have done with my own site as I wasn’t really bothered with google result’s but will put some into action after the new redesign of Styletime and we will see

Come on SEO expert’s share some easy tip’s and drop a comment are any of these tips ‘Real’?

Some of these will be solely based for WP installations and recommending plugin’s, some are general tip’s that anyone could apply!

All in one SEO WP plugin

I have alway’s installed this as standard on any new blog but I think the word is optimization, choose your title’s tags and keywords carefully check out Google trend’s to give you idea’s of commonly searched term’s related to your niche!

An alternative to this is Headspace 2.

Google XML Sitemaps Doh!

Links in the footer with Anchor text

Apparently the last text in the footer of your site is given emphasis, True? I don’t know but another thing to try try changing your site name in the copyright to something with Anchor text. If your a graphic designer then instead of having your name and linking it to the homepage of your site in the footer or your company name then make it ‘Professional Graphic Designer’ or some other relevant keyword’s.

SEO Friendly images

Another WP plugin but as designer blogger’s you probably have a lot of images in your posts so this will automagically give you some alt and title attributes relevant to your post.

Google PageRank or PR

Now this is a subject I shouldn’t even get started on Does it make a difference? Does it mean anything? I must admit I was happy when the little green bar told me after one month Styletime had a PR3 and some inner PR4 and PR5 pages but apart from telling me that alot of people linked to those posts which is great does it do anything for me!?

Any expert’s wish to comment? I have no opinion on this whatsoever

If you do believe that PR does something and I wouldn’t like to disagree thats why I spent a little time going through old posts and making some inner links to try and spread around the green!

If some pages pick up some good PR then go back edit them and link to other pages on your site or your homepage will that increase your homepage PR, I don;t know but I did it so well see

This post could go on and on and if you search google for ‘SEO tips for Wordpress’ or such you’ll get an endless list.

How to check your inner page PR? FF and a little plugin called SEO Quake then go to google and search for ‘site:http://yoursite.com’ and underneath you’ll see a plethora of info about PR back link’s alexa etc etc.

IMHO there’s just too much and you’d end up losing focus on your blogging as your spending too much time on SEO
